Normally, heading home is the worst part of the trip. Some of this is due to the drive – the last push
through Illinois from St. Louis is by far the most boring stretch of the
trip. But it’s also hard to go home and
get back to “normal” life after being out travelling for so long.
But it wasn’t as hard this time. The drive through Illinois was as bad as
always (especially now that I was worrying about the condition of our car), but
the usual sadness about a trip ending wasn’t there. I know part of it had to do with the experience
in Hot Springs; by far one of my least favorite travel destinations ever. I also think part of it had to do with where
we went. While the “Eastern” parks were
great and we had a great time (especially seeing our friends), those parks
really don’t compare to the parks out west.
But the biggest reason this ride home didn’t seem so bad is that we know
we have an even bigger trip coming up in just a few days. It’s a lot easier to come home when the next
adventure is so close on the horizon.
